Need a picture under 20 KB? Drop your image: the tool looks for the best quality that stays below 20 KB and reduces the dimensions only when it has to. The output is JPG by default, the format most upload forms accept.
What does 20 KB look like?
20 KB is very small, about the weight of a thumbnail. A passport-style portrait or a scanned signature at a few hundred pixels fits comfortably. A full phone photo cannot keep all its detail at this size, so the tool also lowers the pixel dimensions until the file fits.
Tips to reach 20 KB without ruining the picture
- Crop first. Remove empty margins so the subject fills the frame: fewer pixels to store means more quality left at 20 KB.
- Plain backgrounds compress better. A face on a flat background is much lighter than a busy scene.
- Keep JPG. Many forms and portals reject WebP, and PNG is rarely small enough at this size.
- Signatures: a dark signature on white paper, photographed in good light, compresses far better than a shadowed or grey scan.
This tool fixes the file size, not the pixel dimensions. If your form also asks for exact dimensions (for example a fixed width and height), crop or resize the image first, then compress it here.
Can any photo be compressed to 20KB?
Almost always, but a large, detailed photo ends up with fewer pixels to fit. If a result still ends above 20 KB, it is flagged in red so you can crop the picture and try again.
Will the quality be good enough for a form photo?
For a face or a signature shown small on a screen, yes. For anything that will be printed or zoomed, 20 KB is too small: try 50 KB or 100 KB.
JPG or WebP for 20KB?
JPG. WebP can be lighter, but many upload portals only accept JPG or PNG.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
